چکیده

Safety of the next-generation space flight vehicles requires development of an in-flight Failure Detection and Prognostic (FD&P) system. Development of such system is challenging task that involves analysis of many hard hitting engineering problems across the board. In this paper we report progress in the development of FD&P for the re-contact fault between upper stage nozzle and the inter-stage caused by the first stage and upper stage separation failure. A high-fidelity models and analytical estimations are applied to analyze the following sequence of events: (i) structural dynamics of the nozzle extension during the impact; (ii) structural stability of the deformed nozzle in the presence of the pressure and temperature loads induced by the hot gas flow during engine start up; and (iii) the fault induced thrust changes in the steady burning regime. The diagnostic is based on the measurements of the impact torque. The prognostic is based on the analysis of the correlation between the actuator signal and fault-induced changes in the nozzle structural stability and thrust. * * Dmitry Luchinsky et al. PROGNOSTICS AND DIAGNOSTICS OF CONFLICTS AND ERRORS OVER e-WORK NETWORKS

This research studies two related functions over e-Work networks, prognostics with respect to conflict and error (CE) prediction, and detection with respect to CE diagnostics. Traditional prognostics and diagnostics approaches face two challenges: (1) How to model a system for effective conflict and error prediction and detection (CEPD); (2) Centralized CEPD algorithms are difficult to develop ...

Current Issues in Vibration-Based Fault Diagnostics and Prognostics

Current issues in vibration-based fault diagnostics and prognostics are: (a) fault/damage identification; (b) localization; and (c) monitoring. The fault/damage identification and localization are needed for diagnostics. The monitoring allows observing the fault/damage progression in time. Based on monitoring, the prognostics of the moment of failure, and hence of the remaining life could be pe...

A Survey of Artificial Intelligence for Prognostics

Integrated Systems Health Management includes as key elements fault detection, fault diagnostics, and failure prognostics. Whereas fault detection and diagnostics have been the subject of considerable emphasis in the Artificial Intelligence (AI) community in the past, prognostics has not enjoyed the same attention. The reason for this lack of attention is in part because prognostics as a discip...

Development of an on-board failure diagnostics and prognostics system for Solid Rocket Booster

We develop a case breach model for the on-board fault diagnostics and prognostics system for subscale solid-rocket boosters (SRBs). The model development was motivated by recent ground firing tests, in which a deviation of measured time-traces from the predicted time-series was observed. A modified model takes into account the nozzle ablation, including the effect of roughness of the nozzle sur...

Autonomous diagnostics and prognostics in machining processes through competitive learning-driven HMM-based clustering

A prerequisite to widespread deployment of condition-based maintenance (CBM) systems in industry is autonomous yet effective diagnostics and prognostics algorithms. The concept of ‘autonomy’ in the context of diagnostics and prognostics is usually based on unsupervised clustering techniques. This paper employs an unsupervised competitive learning algorithm to perform hidden Markov model (HMM) b...
